3X Revenue Growth: Why this Tennessee Remodeler Wishes He’d Switched to Houzz Pro Sooner

With more than 20 years of experience in construction, Steve Welch, the owner of Home Dr. Pros, knew how to deliver high-quality remodeling work but with just one person on the team, the administrative burden felt impossible.

“There were papers everywhere and it was just overwhelming.” Various tools helped him send invoices and estimates, but nothing offered the all-in-one system he needed.

“I’m a contractor; business admin work doesn’t come naturally to me,” Welch says. “Before Houzz Pro, I was drowning in paperwork, constantly playing catch-up with leads, estimates and invoices. It was overwhelming, and honestly, it was holding us back from real growth.”

Sometimes clients want to see the bells and whistles, sometimes a stripped-down version. Being able to duplicate and resend quickly has been a huge time-saver.” Puglisi explains.

The integration with QuickBooks Online is another game-changer. “Our whole business runs through QuickBooks—vendors, subs, payroll,” Puglisi says. “Having payments and Invoices sync automatically has reduced errors and freed up time for more meaningful work.”

By adopting Houzz Pro, Home Dr. Pros transformed operations—and revenue. In just a few years, the company’s annual revenue tripled from about $500,000 to $1.5 million.

“If we didn’t have Houzz, I would probably have to have two people to do the things Houzz is doing — at least. And that’d be a full-time job. Those are facts,” Welch says.

“Houzz Pro is saving us money,” he adds. “Time saved is dollars earned. And when you’ve got more time for gathering new leads, following up, or working with your existing clients, it opens up more doors.”

“It’s no longer a mom-and-pop, back-of-the-truck operation. We’ve got a bucket to put information in, so we can better communicate with clients and with the team. Everybody has a common language and vision of what the result is,” Puglisi says.

Steve wishes he had adopted Houzz Pro sooner. “We’ve scaled up since we’ve had Houzz. Now there’s a system built that is working like a well-oiled machine. If we had adopted Houzz five years ago, it would have put us three years ahead of where we are now.”
