# 6X Project Value: How The Mejia Team Scaled to $650K Builds with Houzz Pro

Location: Riverside, CA
Overview: Family-run general contracting and remodeling firm specializing in kitchens, additions, and full custom home builds
Size of Firm: 5
Annual Revenue: $2 million forecasted for 2026

## Key Outcomes

### 6X Project Value

### 1-Hour Admin Day

### Built-In Client Trust

#### Situation

The Mejia Team is a family business — sisters Alexis Izquierdo and Ashlee Mejia work alongside their father, mother and uncle — building everything from small kitchen and patio jobs to full custom home builds. Before Houzz Pro, the company ran on BuilderTrend but struggled to get a unified view of scheduling, accounting, and client communication.

Hoping deeper training would fix it, the team flew four people to the software's own certification course, paid for out of pocket. It didn't help. For a small team where two or three people handle sales, scheduling, and accounting themselves, a system that demanded that much effort just to function wasn't saving anyone time — it was costing more of it.

#### Solution

The Mejia Team switched to Houzz Pro and had the whole company running the platform within a week. “If you can use Facebook, you can use Houzz Pro,” Izquierdo says — and that ease of use now keeps the office running without extra staff. “We don't have to hire extra admin help because it's so easy to do — it only takes us an hour of our day,” she says. That hour replaced work that used to spill into evenings and weekends. The team builds each week's Schedule in Houzz Pro and shares it with clients seven days out. “It answers the question for the client before they even ask it,” Izquierdo says. “It avoids my phone from ringing. I'm all about work-life balance — I have three kids.”

Payments and Change Orders work the same way. Clients pay progressive invoices directly through the Client Dashboard, and Change Orders stay attached to the project record instead of scattered across texts. “I like that it goes straight to the client portal,” says Ashlee Mejia, CEO of The Mejia Team. “And the change orders are great too — it just keeps the accounting really, really clear.” Selections have become the team's biggest trust-builder. By locking in tile, fixtures, and finishes during the Estimate instead of scrambling for them mid-project, the Mejia Team lets clients choose their own Selections instead of marking them up. “That autonomy is a layer of trust,” Mejia says. “They don't feel like you're hiding costs.” On a job where every dollar gets scrutinized, that clarity changes the conversation. “It creates trust with the client because it's so clear,” Izquierdo says. “The client feels confident, and that creates trust.”

#### Results

That trust and efficiency have let the Mejia Team take on bigger, more complex work without growing the back office. The company has scaled from $100,000 kitchen and patio jobs to full custom home builds north of $650,000 — deliberately choosing fewer projects over higher volume. “We make more money doing less work,” Mejia says. “We've cut out so much fat from the costs that used to bleed our profit.”

Her advice to contractors considering the switch is a simple return-on-investment case. “It's such a small investment when you consider how much time you gain back,” she says. “Even at $500 a month, think about all the time you spend chasing down a tile selection or a faucet that's holding up your project for two weeks. For $500, you eliminate all of that.” Izquierdo puts the payoff even more simply: “You can download the app and implement it within an hour. It's so user-friendly your grandma could use it.”
